How to Install Surface Mount Deck Posts Step-by-Step
Step 1: Determine Post Placement
Once you determine your post’s placement, you’ll need to mark the spot for each structural screw that will anchor it in place.
Step 2: Drill Your Pilot Holes
Your deck surface (materials) and the posts you’ve chosen will dictate the size and depth of each pilot hole.
Step 3: Set Your Mounting Screws
Simply set each mounting screw (without fully screwing them down) and then level your post. This step can be made easier with the use of post leveling plates.
Step 4: Secure Mounting Screws
Either use your drill or an appropriate Allen Wrench to advance your screws, ensuring it’s level.
