What Is Cable Crimping?

Cable crimping is a fast and stable jointing method that binds two or more materials (often a terminal to a conductor). For a cable railing system, you would use cable crimping to connect your cable wiring to the lobed washer and crimp sleeve on each end of your cable line.

This process involves using a high-quality cable crimping tool to seal these components, creating a durable bond. The crimp creates a secure connection, contributing to the safety and lifespan of each cable run.

In addition to cable and deck railing installation, other applications for cable crimping include:

  • Ensuring water-tight connections to prevent shock in electrical applications
  • Creating custom cables for sound equipment
  • Securing wires and other components in automotive and aviation repairs
  •

Crimping is a go-to method over soldering or other jointing processes because of its strength and longevity. A crimp creates a permanent, air-tight seal, making it more reliable. Plus, using a crimping tool is easier and safer than soldering, where you’d have to wait for the equipment to heat up and even risk potential burns or other hazards.
